Where the Light Was Hidden
I’ve always been a daydreamer.
Memories of Angkor only deepened that inner pull—toward quiet beauty, mystery, and the comfort of stillness.
This painting was born from that longing.
From the turquoise and blue of our little pond with its water lilies,
and from the feeling of hiding away in a sacred space—
where you’re finally allowed to rest, to soften, to simply be.
I think you know what I mean.
This poem by Mary Oliver says the rest:
The Ponds
Mary OliverStill, what I want in my life
is to be willing
to be dazzled—
to cast aside the weight of factsand maybe even
to float a little
above this difficult world.
I want to believe I am lookinginto the white fire of a great mystery.
I want to believe that the imperfections are nothing—
that the light is everything—that it is more than the sum
of each flawed blossom rising and fading.
And I do.
